An “Advocacy Meeting for Private School Principals and School Nodals” under the Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) 2024-25, an initiative by SCERT, Punjab, was successfully organized on 18th Feb, 2025 at Khalsa College of Education, Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar. The agenda of the meeting was briefed by S. Narendra Singh, District Nodal Officer (Secondary Education). The Guest of Honour Mrs. Ravinder Kaur, lecturer in Karampura Senior Secondary School, Amritsar highlighted the aim of the meeting to enhance awareness and strengthen the implementation of AEP in schools, ensuring a holistic and inclusive approach to adolescent well-being. The meeting was attended by 10 private school principals and school nodal teachers. Discussions highlighted the need for a supportive school and family environment that fosters open communication and addresses challenges faced by adolescents. The college principal Dr Mandeep Kaur co-ordinated the meeting with the help of staff members Dr Satnam Kaur, Associate Professor and Dr Pooja Sharma, Assistant Professor.
The meeting covered key aspects such as peer pressure, mental health, physical hygiene, gender sensitivity, substance abuse prevention, online safety and value inculcation. Participants expressed views to adopt innovative approaches and suggestions like parent counselling through exposure for right parenting, minimised and balanced syllabus, projects to enhance experiential learning, state and district level sports meets with recognition, restricted access to internet, sex education, etc. The meeting provided insights into effective strategies for implementing AEP, engaging students, and overcoming barriers in delivering age-appropriate education. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment from all stakeholders to actively promote adolescence education in schools from class 6th onwards. The meeting was a success and appraised by the guests.
