17 Sep 2026 ↑ Workshop “Waste to Green Decor: Reimagining Paper”

Khalsa College, Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar organized a creative and environment focused workshop titled “Waste to Green Decor: Reimagining Paper” on 17/09/2026 under the Environment Education Programme, with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, through the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), the State Nodal Agency sponsored by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar

The workshop was organized by the Eco Club of the College with the objective of promoting environmental awareness, sustainable practices and the creative reuse of waste materials among students. The session was conducted by Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, who served as the resource person and guided more than 130 participants in transforming discarded paper-based materials into useful and attractive decorative articles.

The workshop particularly focused on the reuse and upcycling of old flex, waste answer sheets, newspapers, cardboard and other discarded paper materials. Through hands-on activities, students explored innovative ways of converting everyday waste into decorative materials such as drawing & painting on backside of old flex, creating decorative items for their homes using waste papers and making puppets using old cartons, thereby understanding the principles of the 3Rs namely Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Prof. (Dr.) Mandeep Kaur, Principal, Khalsa College, Ranjit Avenue, warmly welcomed the resource person and the participating students. In her address, she appreciated the initiative of the Eco Club and emphasized the importance of nurturing environmental responsibility through practical and creative learning. She highlighted that such activities can encourage students to adopt sustainable habits in their everyday lives and contribute towards a cleaner and greener environment.

The resource person, Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, engaged the students through practical demonstrations and interactive activities, encouraging them to look at waste materials from a different perspective and recognize their potential for creative reuse. The initiative reflects the College’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability, experiential learning and the promotion of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) among students and the wider community.
